How our fees work

Four ways a matter gets funded. Which one applies depends on the work, and we tell you which before anything starts — in writing, in pounds.

No Win, No Fee

Personal injury · Hearing loss · Housing disrepair · Data breach

A conditional fee agreement. You pay nothing upfront and no legal fee at all if the claim does not succeed. If it succeeds, our fee is a percentage of your compensation, agreed and capped in writing before we start. We explain the figure, and what it means in pounds, before you sign anything.

It is not the same as no risk. We will always tell you what the exposure is, including on costs, before you commit.

A single agreed price for a defined piece of work, quoted before we begin. You know exactly what it costs and exactly what is included, and the figure does not move unless the work does — in which case we tell you first.

Ask for a quote and you will get one in writing, not a range.

Settlement agreements

A settlement agreement is not binding unless you have taken independent legal advice, so employers almost always pay a contribution to your legal fees, direct to us. In the great majority of cases that covers the review and the advice costs you nothing.

If the contribution does not cover the work, we tell you what the difference is before doing it.

Hourly rate

Complex or ongoing matters

Where the work cannot sensibly be fixed in advance, we charge for the time spent at a rate agreed at the outset. You get an estimate of the likely total, and we tell you if that estimate needs to change rather than presenting it at the end.

We will always say when an hourly rate is the wrong answer for you.

Before you get in touch

Do I have to live in Bradford to instruct you?
No. Our office is at 3 Manor Row in Bradford and we are glad to see people there, but we act for clients throughout England and Wales. Most matters run perfectly well by phone, email and video call, and a great many of our clients never visit at all. Where meeting in person genuinely helps, we arrange it.
What does the free first consultation actually include?
A proper conversation with someone who knows the area — not a form-filling exercise. You explain what has happened, we tell you whether there is something worth pursuing, what the realistic outcomes look like, roughly how long it would take and what it would cost. There is no charge and no obligation, and if there is no case we say so.
Is No Win, No Fee available on everything?
No, and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. It applies to compensation claims — personal injury, hearing loss, housing disrepair and data breach. It does not apply to immigration work, where conditional fee arrangements are not permitted; immigration is fixed fee or hourly, quoted before we start. Settlement agreements are usually paid for by the employer.
How quickly will someone get back to me?
Within one working day for any enquiry, by whichever route you asked for. If a limitation deadline is close or you have been served with something, say so and it is looked at straight away rather than in turn.
Can you take over a case from another firm?
Often, yes. It happens more than people expect, and wanting a second opinion is not disloyal. There can be cost consequences in changing solicitors mid-matter, particularly under an existing conditional fee agreement, so we will explain those honestly before you decide — including when staying put is the better answer.
What if my problem does not fit any of these areas?
Ask anyway. There is no charge for a question. If it is not something we do, we will say so and try to point you towards someone who does, rather than taking on work outside our competence — which the SRA Code of Conduct requires of us in any event.
